Psalm 109

1 O God of my praise, do not be silent:
for evil and deceitful mouths are opened against me.
2 They speak of me with lying tongues:
they surround me with words of hatred, they fight against me without cause.
3 In return for my friendship they oppose me:
and that for no fault of mine.
4 They repay me evil for good:
and hatred for my affection. [5 Appoint an evil one to stand against them:
and let an adversary be at their right hand.
6 When they are judged, let them be found guilty:
let their prayer for help be counted as sin.
7 Let their days be few:
and let another take what they have hoarded.
8 Let their children be made fatherless:
    and their wives become widows.
9 Let their children be vagabonds and beggars:
let them seek alms far from their own homes.
10 Let the usurer exact all that they have:
and let strangers plunder the fruit of their toil.
11 Let no one be loyal to them:
and let no one have pity on their fatherless children.
12 Let their line become extinct:
in one generation let their name be blotted out.
13 Let the sins of their fathers be remembered by the Lord:
and their mothers' iniquities not be wiped away.
14 Let their sins be constantly before the Lord:
may he root out their memory from the earth.
15 For they did not remember to show loyalty:
but persecuted the humble, the poor and the crushed in spirit, and sought to put them to death.
16 They loved to curse-let curses fall on them:
they took no pleasure in blessing, so let it be far from them.
17 They clothed themselves in cursing like a garment:
so let it seep like water into their bodies and like oil into their bones.
18 Let it be as the clothes they wrap about them:
or like the girdle that they wear each day.
19 This is the Lord's recompense to those that oppose him:
to those that speak evil against me.]
20 Act for me, O Lord my God, for your name's sake:
and deliver me, as your steadfast love is good.
21 For I am poor and needy:
and my heart writhes within me.
22 I fade like a lengthening shadow:
I am shaken off like a locust.
23 My knees are weak from fasting:
my flesh grows lean and shrunken.
24 I have become the scorn of my enemies:
and when they see me, they toss their heads in derision.
25 Help me, O Lord my God:
and save me for your mercy's sake,
26 That all may know it was your hand:
that you, O Lord, have done it.
27 Though they curse, yet give me your blessing:
and those that come against me will be put to shame, and your servant shall rejoice.
28 Let those that oppose me be covered with disgrace:
let them wear their shame as a garment.
29 And I will give the Lord great thanks with my mouth:
and praise him in the midst of a multitude.
30 For the Lord will stand at the right hand of the poor:
to save them from those that would condemn them.
