Day Fifteen : 12th December

Kneeler Fifteen

Isaiah 35

1 The wilderness and the dry land shall be glad, the desert shall rejoice and blossom;
like the crocus it shall blossom abundantly, and rejoice with joy and singing.

6b For waters shall break forth in the wilderness, and streams in the desert;

7 the burning sand shall become a pool, and the thirsty ground springs of water;
the haunt of jackals shall become a swamp, the grass shall become reeds and rushes.

Brueggemann (1) p 278:

'The crisis has been one of drought and aridness. Now, because God has come, that crisis — like the crisis of human disability — is ended.
… Creation that had sunk into dysfunctional, deathly chaos is now rejuvenated for fruitfulness and generativity. The poet has almost no comment upon how this happens, except for the two abrupt verbs "break forth" and "become".
