Day Fourteen : 11th December

Kneeler Fourteen

Isaiah 48

12 Listen to me, O Jacob, and Israel, whom I first called:
I am He; I am the first, and I am the last.

13 My hand laid the foundation of the earth,
and my right hand spread out the heavens;
when I summon them, they stand to attention.

16 Draw near to me, hear this!
From the beginning I have not spoken in secret,
from the time it came to be I have been there.
And now the Lord God has sent me and his spirit.

from Brueggemann (2) p 104:

'What Israel is to hear is the glory of Yahweh articulated, in the mouth of Yahweh, as doxology. The doxology links (a) the choice of Israel, (b) the first-and-last quality of Yahweh, who overrides all the transactions of worldly powers such as Babylon, and (c) the work of Yahweh as creator. Thus the resolve of Yahweh is an occurrence on the scale of creation power. … The God who summons the extremities of creation is the God who will save Israel.'
