Lent Day Thirty Four

Celebrating Richard of Chichester.

Richard's Prayer

Thanks be to thee, my Lord Jesus Christ,
For all the benefits which thou hast given me,
For all the pains and insults which Thou has borne for me,
O most merciful Redeemer,
Friend and Brother,
May I know thee more clearly,
Love thee more dearly
And follow thee more nearly.

If I may be permitted a personal comment.
I had a time of waiting in Dover, and walked around and found a small chapel.
It was the burial place of Richard of Chichester. (Reading more from Chichester Diocese, his heart is buried in Dover.)
He was beloved in that place for his work at the local hospital.
It was a place of refuge for the homeless and destitute as well as a place of healing.

His prayer has become a favourite song and worth singing, day by day.
